WHAT IS OUR POSITION ?
For the technology industry, it remains important to have a level playing field in terms of environmental regulations. The first steps were already taken with the translation of new European regulations to Flanders, but we also recommend carrying out this review when implementing and applying existing regulations. This is necessary in order to ensure attractiveness for future investments. The optimisation of different licensing procedures is a must here (see licence applications, raw materials declarations, complex projects, etc.).
The circular economy offers many opportunities. Given that technology-inspired companies believe in the further development of a sustainable society, co-creation should be preferred to top-down legislation.
WHAT ARE OUR CONCRETE RECOMMENDATIONS ?
- Tackle ‘gold plating’ further, particularly in the application of regulations
- Speed up licensing procedures, certainly for strategically important investment projects
- Pursue a realistic water policy
- Eliminate obstacles in order to allow the circular economy to grow fully
